Pear Pomegranate Clafoutis Recipe

Seriously healthy enough to eat for breakfast and so simple to make.

Does it get any better? My family celebrates Thanksgiving a week early so that we can prep for our annual Calm Black Friday event. This is the perfect time of year to serve this dessert that has been enjoyed by all.

Pear Pomegranate Clafoutis Recipe

Ingredients:

4 eggs

1/4 cup honey or maple syrup or agave if you must but agave is so processed.

1/2 cup heavy cream or coconut milk (the coconut milk is from a can–no the drinking coconut)

If using coconut milk it really changes the flavor profile but if you need it to be dairy free use it.

1/2 cup of melted butter (dairy free version use 1/4 cup of applesauce)

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

1/3 cup of blanched almond flour. The only kind that works in this recipe is Honeyville.

Trust me on this one and  do not use the stuff you buy in the grocery store.

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon sea salt

4 large pears peeled and sliced

Instructions:

Butter a nine inch pie pan. I use a stoneware pie pan with a fluted edge.

Whisk together the honey, eggs, cream butter and vanilla.

In another bowl mix all of the dry ingredients.

Whisk the contents of both bowls together.

Lay the pears in the pie pan and pour the combined bowls over the top.

Cook for 45-55 minutes at 325 degrees.

As it cooks this will create the consistency of something between a cake and a custard. The fruit rises to the top and it is just beautiful. We like to let it cool and then sprinkle fresh pomegranates  seeds on it.

Calm Black Friday 2018

Calm Black Friday 2018

It is here. It is almost here.

Check out our Facebook Event for Calm Black Friday this year. Daily giveaways to help us get the word out will be happening.

We need to explain about Living the Good Life and how Calm Black Friday came to be.

12 bottles of lotion around my kitchen table.

12 bottles and it took me two batches to make that many.

Friends told their friends  and they came and bought them.

The next year I tripled the batch and they came and bought them.

The next year I made lotion for  weeks in advance. I sold out of lotion.

The next year we rented a booth and I prepped for a month to have enough lotion. My kids worked along beside me and it paid for Christmas presents for them. All of them wanted ipods that year and we were still  financially not caught up from my health crash. The money helped put those ipods under the tree.

We moved into a retail space.

Friends told their friends.

We needed a warehouse.

We rented a warehouse.

We outgrew the warehouse.

Warehouse Moving AGAIN

We moved to a new warehouse with a loading dock to accommodate the pallets of raw materials we needed to create product.

Fast forward to our new retail space with our warehouse attached. Insert a hooray!

953 West 700 North Suite 104 Logan Utah

Calm Black Friday is now a way for me to show gratitude to the community for being a part of this journey we call Living the Good Life.

During one of those first black Friday’s we had a problem.

Women pushed each other to grab the last bottle of product.

Not Cool

So we really emphasize the Calm in Black Friday. The lotion is now made in 300 bottle lotion batches and each scent will have numerous production runs. I am clueless how to make the lotion as my daughter Meghan runs her Team at the warehouse and runs the wholesale division and product development  at Living the Good Life Naturally.

My husband Morgan loves talking with everyone and serves healthy hot chocolate every year. He actually flew in to serve it this year. He is a tradition man and  loves meeting up with people who show up every year for our party. So we have learned a few things along the way and our goal is to always make it better each year. So here goes for this year.

Online and retail will happen very differently.

Online

Starts at 6 AM MST Friday November 23rd.

Those on our newsletter will receive some specials that no one else does.

This sale is while supplies last.

We will run out of product. Our goal is to produce enough but we can already tell.

Shipping will be FREE for orders over 30.00.

Almost EVERYTHING will be on sale.

The best pricing on magnesium all year long.

The best pricing on our bath and body products all year long.

A gift from me to you  in every box. Imagine me saying thank you while you and I sit and sip something nutritious and delicious with you.

Randomly throughout the day  numerous online orders will receive a free jug of magnesium or a 50.00 gift bag full of some of my favorite things. These will be picked at random and you will not know you are receiving it until it shows up on your doorstep. 20 winners will be chosen.

Shipping does take longer than usual to get everything to you wrapped and arriving safely.

Retail Location

953 West 700 North  Suite 104 Logan, Utah

Doors open Friday morning at 10:00 AM

Everyone will receive an armband.

This armband will put you in a group that prizes will be drawn. Spreading the magnesium love to the entire line instead of the first ten people in line.

We love everything that the Little Lamb’s Foundation does for foster care children. So you will be able to purchase a tag from our giving tree that will go straight to Little Lamb’s.

Team Good Life will then sleep.

Magnesium During Pregnancy

Posted on

Should we call these quick questions of the day? Here’s a question that came in today about magnesium: Is it safe to use while I’m pregnant? Oh my goodness, yes! So let’s talk a little bit about magnesium and pregnancy and what it does for the baby.

As the baby comes down the birth canal, that head needs to tuck in to make that transition. How far it can tuck in depends on the levels of mom’s magnesium that she can give to the baby. Acid reflux in a baby was magnesium deficiency in the Mama. A healthy liver in a baby is directly related to magnesium levels in the Momma.

So when we take a pregnant woman and she soaks, we’re getting 2-for-1! We are getting magnesium levels up in mom, and we’re getting magnesium levels up in the baby. It is absolutely critical to go into that labor and delivery with cell saturation because when you do, your body is able to relax and have an easier transition to bring that baby into this world.

Is magnesium ok for pregnant Mamas? Yes! Is it mandatory? Yes, and my goal is to just keep talking about it from the top of the mountains so that everybody knows how important magnesium really is. Not just for children, not just for moms, but especially for pregnant moms.

16 Lessons Learned After 16 Years of Business

  6. Focus on the things you do best and hire out everything else
  7. Always be open to learning
  8. Create systems and write them down.
  9. Know your numbers, repeat. Know your numbers.

  16. Don’t let it consume you, take a break and live a life filled with deep connection. Those are the moments that will bring the greatest insight to tap you into your inspiration to make the world a better place

Vitamin D: What You’re Missing

Vitamin D: What You’re Missing

Here’s the scoop.

I am super worried about your vitamin d status. Truth is, your doctor has probably only been testing for stored levels of vitamin d, and that’s only part of the story. Your body has not only stored levels of vitamin d, but you actually have something called active vitamin d. And trust me, there’s a difference. An imbalance of the two could be the cause of your fatigue, anxiety, hormone imbalance, and a whole slew of other things. Here’s the info you need to asses where you’re at, and some facts to empower your decisions.

Pros + Cons of  Synthetic Vitamin D

Vitamin d3 is the most common supplement most of us are getting, but it’s actually a synthetic form of the nutrient. Once it has been processed into supplement form, it can only become part of your stored vitamin d levels. While you need stored vitamin d for calcium absorption, immune support, and muscle function, our body reacts badly when we have too much.

For example, synthetic vitamin d (d3) antagonizes the vitamin a in your liver, which starts a downward spiral of functionality.  Vitamin a is crucial for mineral biochemistry. Vitamin a balances oxidative stress in the liver. Without it, you have a liver that ages faster than normal, and won’t be able to keep up with the 500+ functions required to keep your body healthy.

And vitamin a isn’t the only one that suffers. With too much of the stored vitamin d, your body tries to balance the amounts by dropping magnesium and calcium too. In order to allow our body to use all of these nutrients properly, we need to be looking at the full picture of vitamin d: calcidiol and calcitriol.

The Vitamin D Dynamic Duo

Calcitriol vitamin d is the active version.

Calcidiol vitamin d is the stored version

Active vitamin d should not be more than 1.5-2x more than the stored version of vitamin d. The issue is that the stored type of vitamin d is being added to most of our food. From orange juice to your favorite granola bar, the nutrition facts you see aren’t telling the full story.

Ok, Now What?

So what do we do to fix the overdose that we’re finding in the foods around us?

Vitamin d acts like a key to unlock the cell. Active vitamin d enables the lock to be opened. Stored just sits in the lock. Both are useful! But, if you were using synthetic vitamin d as a supplement and you find out that your stored vitamin d is higher than it should be, there are two things that can make a big difference:

First, you’ll want to increase your magnesium levels. This will enable your vitamin d to convert to an active form of vitamin d.

Second, you’ll want to know that blue-green algae (like the E3 ‘brain on blue-green algae’ we carry in the store) and magnesium act like batman + robin for your body, and together become the perfect way to clean up any residual problems from too much stored vitamin d.

Implementing these two simple supplements can help your body correctly use the vitamin d you’ve been trying to use, and vastly affect your health and daily feelings of wellness. Pinkie promise it’s something your body will thank you for.

1 Ingredient To Avoid In Your Supplements

Posted on

1 ingredient to avoid in your supplements

Seattle was such a fun magnesium class. It was a small class so we were able to dive a little deeper. One of the topics we got into was synthetic vitamins. My goal with everything I buy to boost my health is a long-term investment. Synthetic vitamins simply cannot play the role that the real vitamin does.

There are hundreds of synthetic options and since writing blog posts is a skill I am learning, I decided to keep it to the one main synthetic vitamin that i avoid at all costs. Synthetic vitamin d which is listed as Vitamin D as  Ergosterol or Calciferol. Also listed as vitamin D3.

At this point in a live class, eyes are starting to pop as people wrestle with what they know about vitamin d. We read everywhere about the importance of vitamin d. You simply must decide if you want the real deal and not a synthetic version that clogs cellular function.

Vitamin d actually functions as a hormone. There are two types of vitamin d active and stored. Active vitamin d is where all the benefits happen with this crucial vitamin/hormone.

Think of vitamin d as a key that unlocks the cell. Synthetic d sits in the lock and causes problems.

There are 3 metabolic processes to convert vitamin d. Your skin, liver, and kidneys. Cholecalciferol is converted to Calcidiol which is the active form of vitamin d. Here is where it gets so interesting, None of these processes can happen if you do not have enough magnesium. Magnesium is what kick-starts the process into action. So even if you are taking a supplement which is the storage form of vitamin d you are not adding the type of vitamin d that activates all the benefits of this superpower nutrient.  Plus once your storage vitamin d is higher than your active d we start to see an increase of auto-immune issues and lowered immune function.

6 ways to increase your vitamin d

So, how do you get your vitamin d? Here are a few of my favorites.

  1. that old-fashioned thing called sunshine
  2. fatty fish (salmon is my favorite)
  3. portobello mushrooms if able to be exposed to the sun
  4. egg yolks if the chickens are exposed to enough space and sunshine
  5. beef liver ( i simply cannot get it down so I use this)
  6. whole food cod liver oil (make sure it is naturally occurring and not just synthetic added)

target goals

Do you ever have a target goal? Most of mine are things like water intake 85 ounces, 8 hours of sleep and just a square of dark chocolate a couple of times a week. If I did not have those target goals I would be chronically dehydrated, totally exhausted and be eating crappy chocolate all day. When you have target goals you have specific goals that are easier to stay on track with.

vitamin d target goals

Vitamin d has very specific target goals in your body. It keeps the calcium in balance. So a vicious cycle is created. Magnesium levels drop which aids in the production of vitamin d levels which then causes calcium to become de-regulated and hardens the arteries and bones.

supplement section reduced when deleting synthetic d

So walking down the supplement aisle becomes so much easier once you understand how detrimental synthetic vitamin d is. Most supplements contain this synthetic nutrient and if it does it is off my list. Making supplement choices much easier.

So tell me, do you avoid synthetic vitamins? Drop me a comment and let’s talk.

Do You Ever Feel Guilty?

Posted on

Every woman I have ever worked with has experienced guilt. Guilt over how clean her bathrooms are. Guilt over how she feeds her family. Guilt over how her body looks. Guilt over a million little things.

Can we talk about guilt? In my belief system, guilt is a heavy, low vibration. It is meant to be that way. When you experience guilt it is because you have committed a sin.  You then have a desire to drop to your knees and connect with God and let go of the guilt

When you feel guilty for everything you actually break natural law. Guilt no longer becomes transformative.  It becomes something you get used to carrying. Something your family gets used to being around. Think about that for a minute.  Guilt is for sin. Let me remind you that the definition of sin is the immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law.

What did you say you were feeling guilty for? That your car was not clean? That you spaced out a meeting? Please ask yourself if what you feel guilty for is an immoral transgression against divine law.

If not, then maybe you are buying into guilt to hold yourself back. How are you ever going to get healthy when you are holding yourself back on a daily basis? Did you know that women who feel guilty have a harder time holding their magnesium levels strong? Magnesium is the foundation that you build your health on. When you carry guilt you burn through magnesium faster.

Is it time to let go of the guilt?

What do you think? Do you hold yourself back by holding onto guilt? Leave me a comment and share what you feel guilty about. Putting it in writing can be a powerful tool.

I am choosing not to feel guilty there is no picture to go along with this blog post.

Acerola + Ceylon Immune Drop Recipe

Acerola + Ceylon Immune Drop Recipe

1/2 cup coconut oil

1 teaspoon Ceylon cinnamon

1/4 – 1/3 cup of acerola cherry powder
1/2 cup raw local honey
Mix cinnamon and acerola into softened coconut oil, then add honey. Spoon drop or pipe into small bite size circles on cookie sheet and place in the freezer until hard. Flash freeze on a cookie sheet and then store in the freezer.

Do you ever feel like you are sick all of the time? Many times it is a simple lack of t4 thyroid hormone converting into t3 thyroid hormone. This drops the immune system causing voltage to drop and illness to kick in. Adding acerola cherry powder with a strong copper core can boost that conversion process which starts in the liver. Acerola can be a tough one to get down until Michelle one of our Core7 members came up with a brilliant solution. The following recipe was shared with us from Michelle.

Acerola Fun Fact

Fun fact about our acerola cherry powder, it is grown in a permaculture system. This is what really sets this powder apart because of the increased level of nutrients shuttled through the soil increasing the copper core. Copper is needed to help the thyroid hormone convert from stored to active so that it is able to boost immune function.
