If you've ever tried to verify where a magnesium brand actually sources their product — and I mean really verify it, not just read their marketing copy — you've probably run into a wall.
Ask for a Certificate of Analysis. Ask for their sourcing region. Ask for the actual test results on heavy metals.
For many brands, the answer is silence. Or a vague reference to 'pharmaceutical grade.' Or a customer service email that never gets returned.
That bothers me. A lot.
Today I want to explain exactly where our magnesium comes from, what's in it, why we can prove it — and why the brands that won't show you this information are giving you a very important signal.
A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is a document issued by a manufacturer or an independent laboratory that confirms the specific composition and purity of a product — batch by batch. For magnesium chloride, a good COA will tell you:
✓ The exact percentage of magnesium chloride in the solution
✓ The levels of other naturally occurring minerals (sodium, potassium, calcium, etc.)
✓ Heavy metal levels — including arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury
✓ Which batch the analysis applies to (batch number + date)
✓ Who signed it and what authority they carry
A COA isn't a marketing document. It's a quality control document. It's the difference between a brand saying 'our magnesium is pure' and a brand proving it.
Our magnesium chloride is sourced exclusively from the Zechstein Inside® deposit, located roughly 1,600 meters beneath the earth's surface in the Netherlands. This is an ancient seabed — sealed underground over 250 million years ago — completely isolated from modern environmental contamination.
No agricultural runoff. No industrial pollution. No microplastics from the ocean. The magnesium has been locked in geological time for longer than humans have existed.
It's extracted through a process called solution mining using filtered water, then physically purified — no synthetic chemicals, no ionizing radiation. What arrives in our products is exactly what nature created, cleaned and concentrated.
The brine is produced by Nedmag Industries Mining & Manufacturing B.V. in Veendam, the Netherlands, in accordance with the certified Zechstein Inside® batch protocol, and distributed to us through Zechstein North America. Every batch is traceable, numbered, and documented.
Our most recent Certificate of Origin is from Batch 05 B 25, dated December 2025 and signed by Ir. D. Janse of Zechstein Minerals BV. It includes a full elemental analysis with over 25 tested substances.
For the heavy metals most consumers worry about:
Arsenic (As): Detected at <0.0004 mg/L. The maximum specification is 0.02 mg/kg. We're well below the limit.
Cadmium (Cd): Detected at <0.03 mg/L — at or below the detection threshold.
Lead (Pb): Detected at <0.5 mg/L. Well within the allowable specification.
Mercury (Hg): Detected at <0.0003 mg/L — essentially unmeasurable.
The full Certificate of Origin and all supporting documentation are available to download on our Purity & Sourcing page. Not on request. Not after you email us. Right now, publicly, for anyone to see.
Beyond the COA, our brine has been independently evaluated by the Magnesium Health Institute (MHI) in Groningen, Netherlands. This evaluation, conducted by R. M. Danel, MD (chair of MHI since 2009), assessed the safety of our specific brine formulation for topical skin application.
Their conclusion, published November 2025 and updated for 2025–2026 EU regulatory changes:
We conclude that Zechstein Minerals Brine (ZI Brine®), produced in accordance to the certified Zechstein Inside® batch protocol, is safe to be marketed.
The Margin of Safety (MoS) calculated for topical use — based on 5–10 sprays per day — is greater than 100. That means you would need to apply more than 100 times a normal daily dose before approaching any level of concern. This isn't a theoretical calculation. It's a documented, signed, independent assessment.
Over 7.5 million kilograms of this brine have been sold globally since 2006. Zero registered safety-related adverse events.
The Purity & Regulatory Statement from Zechstein Minerals BV confirms our magnesium is free from:
✓ Pesticides and herbicides
✓ Hormones
✓ GMOs and allergens
✓ Nano and micro plastic particles
✓ Carcinogens — no California Proposition 65 warning is required
✓ Substances on the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) prohibited list
✓ BSE/TSE prions
✓ Synthetic pharmaceutical compounds
I want to be careful here — I'm not going to name names or make accusations I can't back up. But I will say this plainly:
If a magnesium brand cannot or will not provide a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis, a sourcing origin document, and an independent safety evaluation — you should ask yourself why.
There are a few possible reasons a brand might not publish this documentation:
✗ They source from suppliers who don't provide COAs — which itself is a red flag in a supply chain.
✗ Their actual test results don't reflect well on the product.
✗ They don't actually know their supply chain well enough to document it.
✗ Transparency isn't a priority — marketing is.
None of these are acceptable when we're talking about something you put on your skin every day.
The Zechstein Inside® certification program exists precisely because the founders believed that the magnesium industry needed a verifiable standard of purity. It's not a marketing badge. It's a documented, audited, batch-by-batch protocol with a traceable chain from the mine in the Netherlands to the product in your bathroom.
The women in this community have often spent years trying to figure out why they feel the way they do — exhausted, inflamed, not quite right. Many of them have tried product after product that promised results and didn't deliver. Some of them have unknowingly used products with questionable sourcing.
When you finally find something that works, you should be able to trust it completely. Not just because the label says so. Because the documentation backs it up.
That's what this page is. That's what our company is committed to. And as our formulations grow and evolve, we'll continue to publish the proof alongside every product.
